A hymn from my childhood…

1 How good is the God we adore,
Our faithful unchangeable Friend:
Whose love is as great as His power,
And knows neither measure nor end!

2 ‘Tis Jesus, the First and the Last,
Whose Spirit shall guide us safe home;
We’ll praise Him for all that is past,
And trust Him for all that’s to come.

My car requires four quarts…

of oil but the synthetic bulk oil I purchase (my favorite brand is whatever is cheapest but not generic) comes in five quart containers. So what to do with the extra oil? Why save it, of course, and pour each additional quart from an oil change into a five quart container until you have a full jug of synthetic multipurpose, multi-weight and multi-brand oil.  With all the claims the oil companies make an oil change with four or more major brands should be the perfect oil. The rest is saved for the snow blower and lawn mover.

Captain thrifty strikes again!

Nine hours of bass…

this weekend. Friday night, Saturday morning and Sunday evening. Such a lovely, passionate, and necessary instrument yet the physicality of it can be impressive. The bass is not your appliance, not an extension of your body, but a true partner with the size and strength requirements that force direct and personal engagement. At the end of the show both the performer and the instrument are fatigued, yet the music is empty without its anchor.

I always thought there should…

be a constitutional amendment barring anyone who went to high school or college in the 60’s from running for office. An exaggeration perhaps but the era of my childhood continue to haunt America.

Yet a little while…

and I believe we will make it through. Because our confidence is not in men but in God. Those who must speak will. Those who must pray will. Those who wait in silence for the storms to blow over will do this as well. Each has the cause of their heart and each will receive their reward.

Our Lord has promised that the Church will withstand the gates of hell but at any place and any time the battle will be more or less. The end, however, is sure. Even if we fail. Even if I fail. Our Lord will not. I must do what I can but my trust, our trust, is higher.

And now on to the day…
